Manny Problems (Poppy Field #5) – Beau Brown

So what if Rex’s stormy blue eyes could set my pulse on edge with just a glance?”

In a word: Maybe read the thing. I didn’t really connect much with this one; definitely one of the weaker entries in the Poppy Field series. There’s very little connection with the other books in the series, with only a passing mention of one of the former leads. But that wasn’t my issue with this book. Mostly I just found this book a bit dull. Rex is a single alpha father in need of a nanny, Con is the omega the agency sends him. It’s basically lust at first sight, which confuses Rex, who’s always considered himself straight (a male alpha who prefers female omegas). It’s a bit of a weird situation considering that Rex and Con are employer and employee, and there’s a 20-year age gap between them, but that doesn’t really stop them from getting together in the end. I liked Rex and Con for the most part, though Rex’s constant harping on the age difference did tend to get on my nerves a bit. I just found the story kind of standard fare, and nothing really excited me about it. There was miscommunication that didn’t need to be there that got kind of irritating after a while (JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER), and that made for some unnecessary padding a lot of the time. This is omegaverse, so insta-love is kind of the standard, though it was a bit hard to gauge just how much time had passed in the story. I think it took about a little over a month for Rex and Con to decide that they were it for each other in between all the waffling around they were both doing. At least they were both sweet together once they got their heads on straight. Rex’s son Riley was pretty cute, and he showed up in the story a fair bit. I really feel like the whole thing could’ve done with another pass from an editor, as there were a few errors in the text. But it was overall a decent story, just maybe not a particularly memorable or engaging one.

The Summary: (from Goodreads) An Mpreg Romance

Omega Con Fletcher is a manny who has trouble keeping his opinions to himself. That character trait doesn’t always make him popular with his clients, but he always has the best interest of the children at heart. When he’s sent to alpha Rex Bronan’s home to care for his four year old son, Con immediately spots a loving father who has trouble showing that love. Most people would probably keep their mouths shut so they could keep their job. But Con doesn’t always do things the way other people would.

Rex has raised his son alone for three years. His wife dumped him a year after his son was born because he was such a workaholic. He knows he isn’t the best father in the world, but he didn’t really think he was the worst either. Not until that mouthy omega Con started pointing out all his flaws.

Rex has always been with women, and he hasn’t really noticed another guy sexually since college. Even then he’d never acted on anything with a guy. Finding Con attractive is confusing for Rex, but the biggest issue he has with this new found attraction to his manny is the fact that he’s twenty years older than Con.

This is a sweet and sexy, bi-for-you contemporary, non-shifter love story with mpreg and a HEA ending. Though part of the Poppy Field Mpreg Series, this standalone story does not need to be read as part of the series.

Alpha’s Secret Baby (Poppy Field #4) – Beau Brown

Garrett, I’m so tired of fighting my feelings.”

In a word: Read the thing. I was so excited for this story after learning about Chip’s situation in the previous books in this series and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! Chip and Garrett have been seeing each other in secret, off and on, for about a year. Garrett is in the closet about his bisexuality so he’s the driving force in them keeping their relationship a secret lest he risk losing access to his younger brother. Chip is finding it harder and harder to stay Garrett’s dirty little secret, so he decides to finally break things off for good and move on with someone who will be proud to actually be seen with him. Of course, Chip’s plans to move on are nearly instantly foiled because he’s still so in love with Garrett and also pregnant by him. Like the other books in the Poppy Field series, this was a quick read full of emotion. A lot more angst this time around, but well worth it for the happy ending we get. Garrett and Chip are so in love, but they can’t make anything work when Garrett is still determined to hide, so something had to give. I was very satisfied with the way the whole situation played out, especially in regards to Garrett’s redemption attempts. Very well done. I was happy to see characters from previous books as side characters. Chip’s two best friends (the omega leads from books 1 and 2 of the series) were there and great sources of support for Chip during his struggles; and the couple from the third book showed up as friends of Garrett’s. There were a few typos in the book, the most obvious one being one of the chapter subtitles that made it seem like Chip’s pregnancy was almost twice as long as it should have been, but overall it was well-written. Another great addition to the series and I look forward to future books.

The Summary: (from Goodreads) Fireman Garrett Livingston could probably have any omega he wants. The problem is he isn’t out of the closet yet. Anyone he beds has to promise to keep his secret. That works out just fine so long as he just wants to sleep around and have fun. But nothing is ever that easy, right?

When Garrett meets Chip Sorenson, he falls hard and fast. The problem is, Chip isn’t going to waste his time on an alpha that doesn’t know what he wants. Chip is ready to settle down and have babies. But if Garrett can’t admit to his family and friends who he really is, they have no future.

As heartbreaking as it is, Chip breaks things off with Garrett. But just as he thinks maybe he’s ready to move on and start a life with another alpha, he discovers he’s pregnant with Garrett’s baby.

This is a sweet and sexy, contemporary, non-shifter love story with mpreg and a HEA ending. Though part of the Poppy Field Mpreg Series, this standalone story does not need to be read as part of the series.

Baby Donor (Poppy Field #3) – Beau Brown

It felt perfect and like I was right where I belonged.”

In a word: Read the thing. Another sweet story in Poppy Field, and definitely an improvement on the previous book (Cowboy’s Omega). This book follows the pattern of the other books of being a romance story that is sweet and fairly low-drama, with an Omegaverse twist. Ace is a single Omega who desperately wants a baby and who works in a fertility clinic; Wyatt is a workaholic Alpha who is a sperm donor at the same clinic. They’re both attracted to each other and seem to form a connection very quickly. It would almost be insta-love, except that this book introduces the concept of fated mates into the series, with Ace and Wyatt being the first official fated couple in the series, and so I don’t think insta-love really applies in this case. Either way, Ace and Wyatt form a quick connection and soon want to always be together while also both being too afraid to admit it. It’s eventually Wyatt who suggests that they have a baby together because Ace really wants one and Wyatt really wants to do something for him. Also it gives them an excuse to have sex. It’s all meant to be no-strings, but of course they both have feelings for each other and only last one sexual encounter before the actual feelings come out. And then Wyatt screws it up and then there’s some mild angst and then of course they make up and it’s pretty much smooth sailing for the rest of the story. This works great as a pretty low-stakes romance for anyone looking for a nice, quick read, and it’s a nice addition to the series (and definitely better than the last book). I will say that I thought the whole thing about Alphas not wanting to be with Ace or risk having children with him just because his little brother has a birth defect was pretty strange to me, though that could just be further commentary about what society is like in this universe. So this was a great story and I really liked it and I’m definitely excited for the next book.

The Summary: (from Goodreads) Omega Ace Hamilton has a horrible case of baby fever. Working as a receptionist at a fertility clinic only makes things worse because he sees pregnant omegas day in and day out. It’s agony watching those happy couples glowing with excitement, when the odds of him ever having a baby are slim to none. He could never afford the artificial insemination procedure, and no alpha will ever get him pregnant the old fashioned way because his younger brother was born with a birth defect. Ace is considered damaged goods by default.

Alpha Wyatt Williams is a donor at the fertility clinic where Ace works. The sexy receptionist catches Wyatt’s eye, and when Ace shares his sad predicament, Wyatt offers to help him out by giving him a baby the natural way. Wyatt doesn’t admit it, but he’s thrilled at the idea of sleeping with the irresistible omega. However, Wyatt makes it clear he wants nothing to do with the pregnancy or the baby after the deed is done.

Ace really wants a baby and he really wants to sleep with the sexy alpha too. But he’s not sure whether he’ll be able to keep his feelings out of the equation. What he truly wants is a real family of his own, complete with an alpha and a baby too.

This is a sweet and sexy, contemporary, non-shifter love story with mpreg and a HEA ending. Though part of the Poppy Field Mpreg Series, this standalone story does not need to be read as part of the series.

Cowboy’s Omega (Poppy Field #2) – Beau Brown

“There was something about him that just got to me.”

In a word: Maybe read the thing. This wasn’t a bad book, really; just underwhelming, especially when compared to the one that came before it. Stewart and Lex as leads really drew me into the story, it’s the main conflict where the story falls flat. This doesn’t really feel like a complete story, so much so that I was surprised when I found myself at the last chapter because I was expecting more story to happen. We first met both Stewart and Lex in the previous book (Baby Doctor) and the prologue in this book shows Stewart’s point of view of that scene. They both spend the night together and Stewart is excited at the prospect of settling down with this Alpha he’s developed a sudden connection to. But then Lex suddenly leaves the country the very next day and Stewart doesn’t see him again for eight months. Stewart isn’t sure what he wants to do when Lex comes back; he wants to be with Lex, but he doesn’t want to get completely involved and then get his heart broken if Lex up and leaves again. Lex’s reason for leaving seems honourable on its face, but I really have some issues with the whole situation, and how we never really get any closure with it by the end. I also thought that Stewart gave in a bit too easily about taking Lex back, and that it seemed pretty convenient that nothing really came up to test Lex’s resolve about not suddenly leaving the country again. Honestly it feels like there’s a chunk of story missing, starting right after Stewart finds out that he’s pregnant. It just skips straight ahead to the birth and then the epilogue, which was a bit jarring. Honestly I was more interested in the situation with Stewart’s friend Chip, which came up a few times in this story but won’t actually be focused on until Book 4. Peter from Book 1 also shows up as a side character and that was pretty cool, seeing him still happy with his family and dispensing some solid advice to Stewart. All in all, I wouldn’t say to give this book a miss, but definitely don’t expect much.

Baby Doctor (Poppy Field #1) – Beau Brown

39441357

He annoyed the hell out of me, but there was something about him that also seemed to draw me in.

In a word: Read the thing. I’m gonna admit, I didn’t think I was gonna like this one. Rafe was just so unlikeable in the beginning, so cold and arrogant. Such an asshole. It’s lucky he changes his tune – and that Peter keeps calling him on his shit – throughout the story or this would have been a chore to get through. I really liked Peter and identified a bit with his struggles as someone who desperately wants to have children but finds that he can’t (though the whole science on that aspect was very suspect to me). I so wanted him to get his happy ending, which was why I was so put off by Rafe at first; I didn’t want Peter to have to settle. But Rafe does eventually come around and become likeable, a little quicker than one would believe, but whatever. The story itself is pretty straightforward with an Omegaverse twist and I did end up liking it. I did feel, though, that it wasn’t really fleshed out. There was a large time-gap in the middle of the pregnancy where Rafe’s character development would’ve gone, and I never really got a feel for much of the world or the town. But as mains, Rafe and Peter did manage to keep my attention, and I did like that the drama in the relationship was called out and dealt with, and that Peter was proactive in the way he did things and wasn’t just a doormat for Rafe to walk all over. There were a few typos in the story, and the whole thing could’ve stood to be a bit longer, but I did enjoy the read, and I’m definitely curious about the next installment in the series.

The Summary: (from Goodreads) An Mpreg Romance

Omega Peter Johnson can’t accept that he can’t have babies. Several doctors have told him he’s barren, but he refuses to believe that. After all, there are few things that would be worse news for an omega. He decides to seek the opinion of the premiere fertility specialist in Poppy Field, Dr. Rafe Hexton.

Alpha Rafe Hexton isn’t known for his charming bedside manner. But he’s the best at what he does. When he delivers devastating news to Peter in an uncaring and blunt manner, Peter sets him straight right before he storms out of his office.

When the two men meet at a club one night, Peter ends up in Rafe’s bed. While Peter may not necessarily like Rafe, he can’t deny how attracted he is to the alpha. Rafe is equally drawn to the younger omega, and finds Peter’s infertility a plus in his book. He’s not interested in having kids.

But just as the alpha and omega come to a mutually satisfying arrangement, fate steps in and changes the game.

This 38,000 word story is a contemporary non-shifter Mpreg romance with steamy scenes and lots of warm feels.
